The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) requires all EFT therapists to undergo rigorous training in order to be certified. It is a gold-bar level of training respected around the world. After completing at least masters level training in therapy and being licensed as mental health providers in their local state/province, therapists seeking EFT certification must first complete:
For EFT Couples Therapists (EFCT): the intensive four-day Externship in EFT (24+ hours), then four successive two-day trainings in Core Skills (48 hours; a deeper dive into the nuances of EFCT with a supervision/small group component), followed by individual supervision, and finally showing evidence (through video of the therapist’s EFCT skills and case conceptualization, etc.) to ICEEFT of having experientially mastered the fundamental steps, process, and concepts in EFCT.
For EFT Individual Therapists (EFIT) and EFT Family Therapists (EFFT): EFIT / EFFT Essentials (24 hours), EFIT / EFFT Consultation (Mastering Skills) (10 hours), followed by individual supervision, and showing evidence through a video of the therapist’s EFIT / EFFT skills and case conceptualization to ICEEFT that they have experientially mastered the fundamental EFIT / EFFT steps, process, and concepts in EFIT / EFFT.
All EFT therapists in this listing have completed some level of training in EFT. Each therapist's level of qualification in EFT is marked by a letter as follows:
E = 4 or 5 day EFCT Externship completed / or EFIT / EFFT Essentials
A = Advanced - Additional training beyond foundational level in “E” and at least 8 hours of EFT supervision completed
C = Certified EFT Therapist … and which type of certification: EFCT (Couples), EFIT (Individuals), and/or EFFT (Families)
S = Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor
It should also be noted that there are at least 20 therapists in the Central PA EFT Community who have received some level of training in EFT. As a community officially affiliated with ICEEFT, only those therapists who are currently ICEEFT members may be listed in this directory.
