ICEEFT Certification as an EFT Therapist?

Explore here to learn more!

A Certified EFT Therapist is one whose expertise in this model of therapy is recognized by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). The primary goals of certification are to promote excellence in the practice of EFT and to ensure maintenance of these standards in both the supervision and training of this approach.

As EFT has been evolving, so is the Certification process. Prior to 2024, Certification had been focused on Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) (the place where EFT first found its roots.) As of 2024, ICEEFT is providing three tracks for certification. Since EFT is one model with three modalities, with new horizons being explored in the realms of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) as well, there is now a way to get certified in each modality. The general descriptions of the overall process are below and then specific information for each track can be explored on the links for EFCT, EFIT, and EFFT.

Certification as an EFT Therapist: The Benefits and Process

Why get certified as an EFT Therapist?

  • The process is tranformative.

  • We learn the value of making space for our own humanity as therapists.

  • We are invited toward excellence.

  • We gain a community.

  • We can’t do this work alone! We learn the value of consultation.

  • Becoming certified builds our confidence.

  • The quality of our work goes up.

  • Certification “brings peace of mind to clients.” - Carolena Bomersbach

  • Certification provides a trustworthy basis for referrals.

  • EFT Certification is a crediential recognized around the world and so is great source of referrals (as we are listed on the ICEEFT website).

This is a model we learn in community, not by ourselves.
— Dr. Ronald Vogt, M.Div., Ph.D., Certified EFT Supervisor and Therapist
